The world looked to Brazil with horrified eyes: radical supporters of President Bolsonaro, who was voted out of office, stormed government buildings in Brasilia and caused massive damage. Among Bolsonaro’s supporters are also evangelical Christians.

The Evangelical Alliance in Brazil condemned the riots with “total rejection.” In any case, no Brazilian church or congregation belonging to the Evangelical Alliance supported Bolsonaro in the election campaign, says Prof. Thomas Schirrmacher, Secretary General of the World Evangelical Alliance.

The theologian emphasizes, Evangelicals can be found in all political camps, for example, even as deputies in the current ruling party. In addition, Schirrmacher calls for prayer for Brazil, “so that the government will think of the welfare of its own people without any ifs or buts.”
