The Secretary General of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) meets Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam, Secretary General of the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity

The meeting took place in the Vatican palace. Judge Mohamed Mahmoud Abdelsalam is Secretary General of the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity. He was an advisor to the Grand Imam of Egypt’s Al-Azhar, Dr. Ahmed Al Tayeb, for more than eight years.

He was involved in drafting the document on human fraternity that the Grand Imam and Pope Francis signed in Abu Dhabi in February 2019. That same year, Pope Francis awarded him the Order of the Knighthood of Pope Pius IX for his services to spreading tolerance and interfaith dialogue. He is the first Egyptian, Arab and Muslim to receive this honor.

Abdelsalam represented Al-Azhar in the Constitutional Assembly tasked with drafting a new constitution for Egypt, and participated in the drafting of Al-Azhar documents from 2011 to 2018. A graduate of Al-Azhar University, Judge Abdesalam is a member of the Executive Office of the Muslim Council of Elders and a member of the Al-Azhar Center for Interfaith Dialogue.
