The Secretary General of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) introduced his major senior leaders to connect with the “Peace and Reconciliation” (as WEA calls it) arm of the United Nations overseen by Teresa Whitfield, director of Policy and Mediation Division of UN’s Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (UN DPPA).

Mrs. Whitefield was accompanied by three of her major staff. Thomas Schirrmacher was also accompanied by three staff members: John Girgis, Permanent Representative of WEA to the UN, Prof. Dr. Johannes Reimer, director of the Public Engagement Department and director of its Peace and Reconciliation Network, and Prof. Dr. Janet Epp-Buckingham, director of the Gobal Advocacy Department.

As Mrs. Whitfield’s task is especially to oversee peacebuilding on a national level and to assure that all UN entities in a given country work towards peacebuilding, the center was to agree on a protocol to connect local efforts of WEA and national evangelical alliances to the UN and to work on possible complaints concerning local situations.
