The Secretary General of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) discusses with the Grand Sheikh of the Al-Azhar University in the Vatican
Intervention in Vatican City in the meeting “Religions and Education: Towards a Global Compact on Education: Meeting of the Representatives of Religions”
Protestant theologian and scholar of sociology of religion Thomas Schirrmacher (60) will be inaugurated on Saturday as the new Secretary General of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA), the representative body of evangelical Christians worldwide. He is the first German to hold this office.
The national Conferences of Bishops of the Catholic Church worldwide met at the Vatican in February 2019 for a summit on sexual abuse. Time to look back a year later, as much has happened in some countries, but there is no real progress on the global level.
The World Evangelical Alliance and the Roman Catholic Church have jointly released a ground-breaking statement—based on six years of dialogue—which, while acknowledging continuing areas of theological divergence, also calls it “imperative” for Evangelicals and Catholics to work together in addressing the spiritual needs of an increasingly secularized and polarized world.
The World Evangelical Alliance published a compendium with 19 global declarations on freedom of religion or belief and human rights in its ‘Global Issues Series’.
