At the end of his speech on principles of peace-making at a Vatican conference on “Ethics in Action,” Prof. Thomas K. Johnson, WEA Ambassador to the Vatican, asked the photographers to come to the front. He then publicly shook hands with the Iranian Shiite Ayatollah Mostafa Mohaghegh Damad, a prominent international spokesman for his variety of Islam.
WEA has pledged to do everything in its power to help build peaceful societies by advocating religious freedom and peace initiatives between religious communities.
The World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) has introduced its new leadership structure to heads of global denominations in the course of the annual meeting of the Conference of Secretaries of Christian World Communions (CSCWC).
Thomas Schirrmacher, the Associate Secretary General of the World Evangelical Alliance responsible for relationships among the churches, praised the “Jesus Unites” platform in a welcoming address at the Free Evangelical Church in Bonn and described it as a model for other countries. “Jesus Unites” is making a significant contribution as German churches and mission agencies work faithfully with the growing number of immigrant churches, congregations holding worship services in languages other than German, and multi-cultural churches.
The leadership and representatives of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) and the World Council of Churches (WCC) have met in the Ecumenical Institute at Bossey, Switzerland to explore and discuss possible areas of future cooperation.
